I join with World Vision in calling on the Australian chocolate industry to commit to addressing the problem of exploitative child labour by outlining a detailed and costed Plan of Action by 1 December 2008 to ensure that chocolate products are free of human exploitation.
This Plan of Action should:
- Address the five major categories of initiatives which are imperative to addressing the problem of exploitative in labour cocoa farming, providing reportable milestones on each of these
- Be developed in consultation with relevant governments and organisations such as labour unions, NGOs, ISEAL Alliance, cocoa cooperatives and the International Labor Organisation (ILO)
- Be underscored by adequate funding: US$14 million per year for the next 10 years or 1 percent of industry revenue
