Sign the Just say ‘Yes’ petition to the chocolate industry

Send a message to the Australian chocolate industry that you want them to make a genuine attempt to tackle the root causes of child labour in cocoa production.

World Vision has set out a list development recommendations which it is calling on industry to meet. In brief, these initiatives are:

  1. Address the issue of fair pricing for cocoa farmers
  2. Support community management of local development to promote community wellbeing
  3. Invest in improved community services
  4. Ensure sustainable cocoa production and farming practices
  5. Ensure that all Australian chocolate manufacturers who are CMA members participate in ethical certification schemes.

Big Chocolate, Just say 'YES!'

I join with World Vision in calling on the Australian chocolate industry to commit to a detailed, fully funded plan of action by 1 December, 2008 that will stop child labour and exploitation in cocoa production.

This Plan of Action should:

  • Address the five major categories of initiatives which are imperative to addressing the problem of labour exploitation in cocoa farming, providing reportable milestones on each of these
  • Be developed as part of a global strategy and in consultation with relevant governments and organisations such as labour unions, NGOs, ISEAL Alliance, cocoa cooperatives and the International Labor Organisation (ILO)
  • Be underscored by adequate funding: US$14 million per year for the next 10 years or 1 percent of industry revenue
